BLUETORCH TV FEATURES BILLABONG SURF EVENTS ON FOX SPORTS NET
SAN CLEMENTE, California. (Wednesday, Nov 22, 2000). Bluetorch TV features three Billabong Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) events presented by Surfer Magazine on Fox Sports Net each day this coming week. The Billabong Pro 2000 World Championship Tour (WCT) mens event, the Billabong Girls Three Star World Qualifying Series (WQS) womens event, and the Billabong T-Street Junior Pro Two Star Junior World Tour event will air Nov 27 - Dec 1 from 4pm - 5pm daily. The full schedule of showings appear below.
These ASP World Tour Events were held over a seven day period from September 25 to October 1, 2000 at Lower Tresles and at T-Street in San Clemente, Southern California. A collection of the best professional men, women and junior surfers in the world competed for the combined prize money of US $157,600 on offer, including Sunny Garcia (Hawaii, 2000 ASP Mens World Champion), Kelly Slater (USA, six times ASP Mens World Champion), Donavon Frankenreiter (USA, Billabong Wildcard), Joel Parkinson (AUS, ASP Junior World Champion), Layne Beachley (AUS, three times ASP Womens World Champion), and Joel Centeio (Hawaii, US and World Surfing Games Junior Champion).
Produced in conjunction with Jamie Mosberg of High Voltage Productions and Bluetorch TV, the exclusive footage shows some of the most defining moments in professional surfing this year. In the Billabong Pro segments, watch Garcia get a little closer to his 15 year dream of winning the ASP World Title, while Luke Eganīs championship aspirations take a turn for the worst. In the most anticipated heat of the event, witness Shane Dorian surfing beyond himself to defeat Slater, while current world number-five Mick Campbell is soundly beaten by teenager Joel Parkinson.
If the Andy Irons/Taj Burrow match-up illustrates the presence of youth in pro surfing, then Joel Centeioīs victory with upside-down backhand moves defines the future of youth in the Billabong T-Street Junior Pro. In the Billabong Girls WQS event, which hosts six of the current WCT top 16, Pauline Mencer steamrolls all comers without loss en to route her decisive victory in perfect 2-4 foot glassy surf.
"We are very satisfied to have had the opportunity of bringing the best of professional competitive surfing to Southern California," says Billabong VP Marketing Graham Stapelberg. "As a world leader in the surfing industry, these events are the perfect forum for the promotion of the surfing lifestyle that the all encompassing Billabong brand embodies. The Bluetorch TV shows throughout the week highlight the best moments of all three events from start to finish." --Tim Williams/Billabong Marketing
